Honouring the Chatham Coloured All Stars

Local residents will be able to take in a historic moment this evening, honouring the Chatham Coloured All Stars.

The fabled local team, who became the first all-Black baseball team to win a provincial championship in 1934 will receive the Order of Sport and be inducted by the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame as a Trailblazer.

This is the inaugural year for the Trailblazer category, which recognizes individuals or teams who have made notable contributions to sport, their impact on the broader culture, and who have paved the way for the next generation of athletes and builders.

The Order of Sport is Canada’s highest honour that can be instilled upon a team or athlete.

A local contingent will be in Toronto tonight, however for those who can’t make it, the ceremony will be live streamed on the big screen at the Sons of Kent brewery in Chatham, starting at 7.
