It was a night to celebrate community in Wallaceburg.
The Chamber of Commerce handed out its annual awards, with Crystal Gyuricza given the first ever ChamberChoice award, as voted on by the community.
Gyuricza was the driving force behind getting changes made to the pedestrian crosswalk at the corner of Murray and Reaume, something she says is an ongoing effort.
“We”re getting new lights by November 17th, and the next part of crosswalk problem is to get the school zones reduced speeds in all school zones in Chatham-Kent.”
Gayle Stucke, former WDSS teacher and Director of Education for the Lambton Kent District School Board, was named Wallaceburg’s Citizen of the Year.
She says a background in education gives her a very insightful look into the meaning of community.
“I think teachers do their jobs because they care about kids, they care about people. Over the course of a long career, there are so many students I’ve been close with that I feel I had an impact on.”
