Chatham-Kent’s only homeless men’s shelter is expanding.
Hope Haven was recently presented with an $1100 donation from the Chatham Rotary Sunrise, and officials say they’ll be putting that money to good use.
Wanda Bell, the Coordinator of Communications and Volunteers, says they want to add more beds.
“We’ve been working over the last few months, expanding and improving our fire alarm system,” Bell explains. “Right now fire code has limited us to ten (beds,) but once this is done, we’ll be able to have upwards of 15.”
Currently, the shelter has 10 beds, and they typically reach capacity more often in the colder months.
