Hope Haven Now Open Seven Days A Week

Hope Haven Men’s Shelter on Wellington Street West in Chatham.

It has been a roller coaster ride for the folks that run Chatham’s Hope Haven and their clients. But things have really turned around in less than a year.

The facility was forced to shut down for over a month because of the pandemic and all the issues associated with it as far as safety protocols.

General Manager Loree Bailey says eventually they were able to get back to three days a week, but now thanks to the United Way, and then Municipality, they are open every day.

“They offered to us a partnership that will allow us to hire staff and pay them for their time, working with the folks at the shelter,” Bailey says. “Restrictions have tightened and loosened and now tightened again, but what has not changed is the need for our services for the vulnerable homeless and those living in poverty.”

The centre will be open for the people utilize their services whether they need a hot meal, a shower, laundry services, or just a place to warm up.

Bailey says this is a huge win for Hope Haven, but especially for the people that need their help.
