The return of colder temperatures has a local shelter opening its doors to those in need once again.
Starting tonight, Chatham Hope Haven will be operating as an overnight warming centre, from 7pm until 7am through Monday. The shelter is located at 183 Wellington Street West in Chatham.
Anyone can be affected by extreme cold-related weather conditions, depending on length of time of exposure to cold. Those especially at risk include:
- older adults over the age of 65
- infants and young children
- outdoor workers
- homeless persons, and/or those without warm clothing or food
During extreme cold weather, residents are encouraged to call or visit friends and neighbours who may be at risk, and keep pets inside.
