Housing Boom Heats Up

A ribbon cutting ceremony is being held today for the largest home development in Chatham-Kent in modern history.

The 380 home project is being built near Bloomfield Road and Park Avenue West in south-end Chatham.

President of Maple City Homes Rob Nelson says the trades stand in generate $75-million alone.

“The product that we’re buying from all the local merchants is about $75-million, it’s a massive economic boost to the community, employing about 120 people annually, and it’ll just keep growing.”

Nelson says any tradespeople hired from outside of Chatham-Kent will be staying in the municipality, pumping more money into the local economy in terms of temporary housing and hotels, restaurants, and other retail stores.

About 90 homes are expected to be built in the first year.
