Hundreds of tickets have been issued following a weekend police campaign targeting poor driving behaviours on Chatham-Kent roads.
Officers with the Chatham-Kent Police Service conducted multiple RIDE spot checks throughout the municipality over the Thanksgiving long weekend as part of Operation Impact.
As a result of the local campaign, a total of 318 tickets were handed out for various traffic offences, and two drivers were issued a three-day driver’s licence suspension for impaired driving.
On provincially patrolled roads, Ontario Provincial Police laid 121 traffic related charges in Chatham-Kent and Elgin County. That includes 89 speeding charges, including five drivers charged with stunt driving; three seatbelt charges, and one charge for distracted driving.
The national initiative is designed to educate drivers on the consequences of impaired driving, not wearing a seat belt, aggressive driving, and distracted driving.
