Several impaired driving charges have been laid following a traffic stop on Highway 401 in Tilbury.
The Ontario Provincial Police said officers stopped a vehicle at around 10 p.m. on Saturday while conducting a Festive RIDE checkpoint in the eastbound lanes at Queens Line.
Authorities said the man was arrested after allegedly showing obvious signs of impairment.
The driver, a 46-year-old Windsor man, was taken to police headquarters for further tests and is now charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs and alcohol, impaired driving with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg, and driving a vehicle with an open container of liquor. The accused is also charged with two counts of driving while suspended and driving while prohibited.
As well, the driver was issued a 90-day driver’s license suspension and his vehicle will be impounded for 45 days. He has since been released from custody with a future court date.
