Improving Information Management

Municipal officials are trying to improve Chatham-Kent’s record on information and records management.

At tonight’s council meeting, administration will be presenting an Information Management Assessment, Strategy and Plan report.

A recent review found gaps between the municipality’s Information Management Program, industry standard best practices, and the elements required to ensure a successful digital information management solution.

In the next few years the municipality wants to hire more employees and spend over $1-million to improve Chatham-Kent’s information management, including storing data, reducing duplication, and resolving issues of inconsistent naming of files and records.

The report said by making suggested improvements, the municipality will reduce costs, see legal benefits, and improve information security.
