In Person Town Hall Meeting in Wheatley Tonight

For the first time since the August 26th explosion in Wheatley, an in-person meeting is being held between residents and municipal officials.

There have been a number of virtual town halls over the last few months, but nothing face-to-face.

Moderated by chair of the group Active Citizens of Wheatley, Lauren Anderson, the meeting will allow residents directly affected by repeated gas leaks and the subsequent explosion to ask questions of municipal leaders.

Mayor Darrin Canniff, West Kent Councillors Melissa Harrigan and Mark Authier, and CAO Don Shropshire will be in attendance.

Tonight’s meeting is being held at the Talbot Trail Golf Club starting at 6:30pm, and will also be streamed live on the municipality’s Facebook page with the opportunity to submit questions online as well.

Seating at the in-person event will be limited to 150 people inside; a sound system will be set up outside to accommodate an extra 80 people.

Proof of vaccination will be required for entry and social distancing will be observed.
