Today marks the start of Seniors Month in Ontario, which comes with some new government funding to help keep older residents active and engaged in their communities.

The Province is investing $22.8 million for more than 400 Seniors Active Living Centres across Ontario.

Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Steve Pinsonneault says the Thamesville Happy Club is in line for $35,959 in funding, and another $57,640 earmarked for the Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre.

Officials say SALC programs deliver a range of initiatives designed to bring seniors together to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones, offering ongoing recreational, social, and lifestyle activities.

SALC programs can request up to $55,000 for maintenance and operating costs, this is an increase from $42,700 in 2023, to $50,000 in 2024.

Programs can be supported by municipalities, non-profit corporations, registered charities, Indigenous groups, Legions, Lions Clubs and recreational clubs.
