Increased Strike Action Mixed with a Glimmer of Hope

English catholic teachers across Ontario are preparing to walk off the job next week.

The OECTA will be taking part in a one-day strike on Tuesday, February 4th if a settlement with the government can’t be reached.

It’s the same day public elementary teachers will be taking part in another round of rotating strikes, affecting several regions including the Lambton Kent District School Board. A province-wide walkout is planned for next Thursday, February 6th as well.

However, there is a glimmer of hope in that case – the provincially-appointed mediator has called the ETFO and Ministry of Education back to the bargaining table with talks set to resume this morning.

In the meantime, local teachers are still preparing for a one-day strike affecting public elementary schools in Chatham-Kent and Sarnia Lambton tomorrow, January 30th.
