Rick Kucera, the Municipality’s Manager of Waste and Recycling Services, says traffic flow at the Chatham yard waste depot has increased from just over 12,000 vehicles in 2003 to almost 31,000 in 2015.
“Recently in Chatham with nearly 30,000 vehicles, the site’s size couldn’t handle the peak volumes of grass in the spring and leaves in the fall, so we’ve expanded that site by 34% to accommodate the volume and also to provide a safer workplace for our workers and the public that use the site”, says Kucera.
The Wallaceburg site saw improvements over the last few years as well to help accommodate an increase in volume.
“We have put some restrictions on some limits at the curb, so residents don’t have a great deal of choice if they’re generating any significant volume of leaf and yard waste. That’s why we have 9 leaf and yard depots that exist across the Municipality in close proximity to everyone, including Chatham, Wallaceburg, Ridgetown, and so on”, Kucera says.
