Indoor Gatherings Blamed For Most New COVID Numbers

Chatham-Kent’s top doctor is less than impressed with a steady increase over the past week. Whether linked to pandemic fatigue or disregard of safety measures, Dr. David Colby says it’s a concerning trend.

“A large, large number of these have been traced to indoor gatherings that people have had, against public health advice,” Dr. Colby says.

“We know that indoor gatherings are very, very risky. If one person who is contagious shows up at those gatherings, the indoor environment and lack of physical distancing that is inherent in all kinds of social interactions, will ensure that large numbers of people will be exposed, and large numbers of cases will result.”

Dr. Colby says especially with a growing number of highly-transmissible variants, indoor gatherings can be very risky.

However, he doesn’t believe the numbers are enough to send Chatham-Kent back in to the Red zone of COVID restrictions.

There are now 61 active cases of COVID-19 in Chatham-Kent.
