Influeza Outbreak Declared At CKHA

Just days after one outbreak ended, another has been declared at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

CKHA officials said the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit declared an Influenza outbreak in the Medicine B Unit at the Chatham site of the hospital on Friday.

The hospital had just announced that outbreaks of Clostridium difficile had ended in the Medicine A Unit and Medicine B Unit on Wednesday.

CKHA said infection prevention and control measures have been implemented in response to the outbreak, which will remain in effect until the outbreak order has been rescinded.

According to the hospital, those with influenza are infectious for one to three days before symptoms start and they will remain infectious until five days after the onset of symptoms.
