Infrastructure Help For CK

The province is shelling out 1.8 million dollars to help improve transit and road safety in Chatham-Kent and Leamington.

MPP Rick Nicholls was at the Civic Centre this morning to announce four projects in the riding are being nominated under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, which is a federal-provincial partnership.

The projects include rehabilitation of the transit terminal and bus shelter, the purchase of public transport vehicles and transit information, and technical upgrades.

“Providing efficient, affordable public transit is an important goal of the municipality,” Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff says. “It is both an economic and social driver in our community.”

The projects are now with the federal government for final funding decisions as they are reviewed for eligibility. Work on some of the projects could begin as soon as this fall.
