Tourism week continues rolling along today.
Shannon Paiva is the Supervisor of Tourism with the municipality and says tourism is an underappreciated economic driver in Chatham-Kent.
“You would not believe the number of people who tell me they’ve never been to Uncle Tom’s Cabin or Buxton National Historic Site,” Paiva says. “In our own backyard, these gems that people come from out of country (to visit) and we have right here.”
Paiva says 70% of the people who visit CK stay with friends and family and it’s important that locals know what we have to offer.
“If the people that are coming to your house don’t know what’s in the area, you are the ambassador, so it’s your job to know what’s happening in our own backyard.”
Paiva says the tourism department is always available to hand out information, but would also like to keep track of where people are coming from and going to in the community.
