A London judge has awarded Wallaceburg councillor Jeff Wesley $27,000 in the ongoing saga of the Water Wells First “Shame Award”.

Deputy Judge Glenn C. Walker found that Kevin Jakubec did in fact make defamatory statements in February of this year when he “awarded” Wesley with the title, and says Wesley will continue to suffer substantial anxiety caused by the defamatory statements.

Walker added that the nature of the internet and Jakubec’s refusing to retract his statement weighed into the decision. the Deputy Judge also wrote that Jakubec  made no attempt to defend himself of the allegations.

According to Wesley’s lawyer, a charity or non-profit organization committed to the preservation of clean drinking water will benefit from the balance of the decision after all expenses have been paid.
