With work expected to ramp up once again around the evacuation zone in Wheatley, those in the area can expect some visitors this week.
Municipal staff will be going door-to-door to inform residents about what they can expect in the weeks and months to come.
Preparations have begun for the next round of excavation near the site of the 2021 gas explosion in order to confirm or deny the presence of any more gas or water wells in the area and remove the remaining foundations of recently demolished buildings.
Residents will also notice a drone flying over the area starting next Wednesday. The device, which capable of detecting methane emissions, will be surveying the village and surrounding rural areas before and after the excavation work to detect whether the activity has caused any changes in known emissions.
A community open house is being held Thursday, August 8th from 6pm – 8pm at the Wheatley Village Resource Centre with municipal representatives and consultants on hand to go over the technical details and answer any questions.
