KFA Helps Out Food Banks

Local food banks are reaping the benefits of the generosity of local farmers.

The Kent Federation of Agriculture, local farmers, and agri-businesses are helping to support Outreach for Hunger and the Salvation Army with thousands of dollars’ worth of donations.

“It’s nice to have fresh fruits and vegetables to give to people in need,” says Salvation Army captain Steven Holland. “A lot of times we give stuff that has a high salt content and things that aren’t very fresh, canned goods. This way we can give them apples and cucumbers and tomatoes and carrots and onions and they can make a good meal.”

Brenda LeClair, executive director of Outreach for Hunger, says it’s all about the famlies.

“It’s knowing that I’m going to be able to go back to the office and offer them this beautiful fresh produce, these wonderful fresh meats, and put something wonderful and nutritious on their tables.”

The food and cash contributions have been collected from area producers to help mark Canadian Agriculture Day.
