Kitchen Fire Causes $25K in Damage

A reminder to play it safe in the kitchen after a fire in Chatham.

Fire fighters were called to a home on St Clair Street just before 6:30 last night.

No one was hurt and damaged was limited to $25,000.

However, officials are stressing the importance of keeping an eye on any cooking food, and making sure towels, potholders, and any other combustible materials are kept away from the stove or oven.

Also, keep a three-foot ‘kid-free zone’ around the stove, and keep pot handled turned inward so they’re out of the reach of little hands and can’t be bumped.
