Lacing Up to Support Those Living With Dementia

Today marks the start of a series of fundraising events to support those living with dementia in Chatham-Kent.

The annual Walk for Alzheimer’s kicks off in Tilbury tonight, the first of four events across Chatham-Kent.

Fund Development Coordinator Joel Emery says all proceeds from the four events stay in Chatham-Kent.

“It never goes to a head office, it goes directly back into our programs and services in the community, such as our in-home respite program, our day program, counselling, education, and the other services and programs that we provide.”

The Chatham-Kent Alzheimer Society brought in over $56,000 in 2022, and has set a fundraising goal of $60,000 this year.

“Every year we keep seeing an increase in the demand for our services, and that’s a testament to how prevalent dementia is becoming in our community,” Emery says.

Tonight’s walk in Tilbury takes place at Northside Park Trail from 5:30 until 7.

Walk Wednesdays continue next week in Blenheim and May 24 in Wallaceburg before the grand finale at Kingston Park in Chatham on Saturday, May 27th.
