A local educational program is looking for volunteers as the head of the program announces his retirement after nearly two decades.
Don Hector will be retiring from the Chatham-Kent & Lambton Children’s Water Festival following 18 years as the lead organizer.
The program delivers hands-on interactive activities for elementary and high school students, covering five water themes — water science, water technology, water conservation, water protection and water attitude.
During Hector’s time leading the event, more than 25,000 students have taken part.
“Don’s passion, commitment, and tireless efforts have been instrumental in shaping the festival into the celebrated event it is today,” the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority said in a news release. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Don for his unwavering dedication and wish him nothing but the best in his well-deserved retirement, filled with successful fishing adventures.”
As Hector moves into retirement, the conservation authority is now seeking additional volunteers to run the festival and ensure its continued success. Volunteers can expect to attend meetings once per month for 10 months during the year.
