Another piece of the political puzzle has fallen into place ahead of the upcoming by-election in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.

Third-term Lucan mayor Cathy Burghardt-Jesson was announced as the Liberal candidate on the weekend.

From 2014 to 2023, Burghardt-Jesson also fought to further the well-being of families in rural Ontario as a Councillor and the Warden of Middlesex County. She now continues her service to Middlesex County as Deputy Warden.

While a date for the upcoming by-election has yet to be set, Premier Doug Ford is required to call a by-election within six months of an MPP position becoming vacant, as per the Legislative Assembly Act. Former MPP Monte McNaughton’s last day in office was October 6, 2023.

The NDP is holding its nomination meeting on Thursday, February 15 in Watford, during which Alvinston resident Kathryn Shailer is expected to be acclaimed as the party’s candidate. Chatham-Kent municipal councillor Steve Pinsonneault captured the Progressive Conservative nomination in January.
