Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor is quite taken with Chatham-Kent.
The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell paid a visit to the municipality yesterday, meeting with community leaders and other residents, and says what struck her most was people’s passion.
“People really love this community, they’re very proud of it and they want to ensure that it remains resilient,” Dowdeswell says. “But also a very realistic understanding of changing demographics and changing economic conditions and really trying to work together in problem solving mode to think about how they can overcome some of those challenges.”
The Lieutenant Governor also announced the creation of the Visionaries Prize for Ontarians aged 18 and up to come up with solutions to various challenges facing the province over the next 50 years.
Awards will be handed out in six categories: reconciliation, governance, inclusive property, environmental stewardship, social cohesion, and scientific and technological innovation.
