Chatham-Kent Council has put an end to new PayDay loan businesses in the municipality.
Councillor Brock McGregor brought forward a motion to amend the current by-law to limit the number of these businesses to 6 –which is how many are in the community currently.
The new by-law also states that no new payday loan establishments can set up shop in Chatham-Kent, and that council could request that existing businesses change locations.
McGregor says he hopes these changes will slow the growth of these businesses.
