The Lions Club is celebrating 100 years this week.
The international service organization was founded in the U.S. on June 7th 1917, and made its way to Windsor a few years later.
Seppo Kuokkanen is the Secretary of the Chatham Lions Club and says their mandate is ever changing and developing.
“Our points of focus are with vision, all kinds of vision care, with environment, with youth, and also with hunger,” Kuokkanen says. “We’re expanding into diabetes and also into childhood cancers, we’re going to be looking after those sorts of things in the next couple of years.”
The Chatham branch was formed in the 1940s.
There are approximately 100 Lions Club members in Chatham-Kent, and those numbers are likely to grow with a Wallaceburg chapter in the works as well.
