A local man is facing several charges following a theft from the liquor store in Chatham.

Police were called to the LCBO on Wellington Street shortly after 12:30 Monday afternoon and say a man went into the store wearing a disguise, and allegedly stole several items off the shelves.

Authorities say two loss prevention staff tried to stop the man, but were assaulted before the accused could be taken into custody.

Further investigation showed the same man was under court orders dating back to June and October of this year, prohibiting him from going to the Wellington Street property.

The 26-year-old has been charged with theft, possession of stolen property, wearing a disguise with intent to commit a criminal offence, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, two counts of resisting arrest, and two counts of assaulting a peace officer.

He was taken to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
