It appears the majority of eligible voters didn’t bother heading to the polls in Thursday’s provincial by-election in the riding of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.

PC Candidate Steve Pinsonneault earned a landslide victory, garnering 15,649 votes, or 56.85% of all votes cast.

Elections Ontario reported only 30.25% of the 90,993 registered voters casting a ballot in the by-election.

In the 2022 general election, 44.8% of eligible voters in the riding cast their ballot, compared to 60.7% in the 2018 provincial election.

A by-election was also held in the riding of Milton last night, which saw even lower voter turnout, with only 27.7% of those eligible taking part in the electoral process.
