The municipality recently sent information to local organizations to confirm arena facilities will remain closed until September 1st. What happens after September 1st is still up in the air.
Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff says while he’d love to see arenas opening up, a lot depends on when the province and local public health officials decide it’s safe.
“ Well, it all depends on what phase 3 looks like, if we can only put 10 people on the ice at a time I don’t know how much that will drive demand. If we went back 10-20 years ago there was no ice on any surfaces, or maybe one or two later in July, and then some start happening in August so there is not a big delay there. But it will be based on demand and what the province dictates as far as how many can get on the ice”,
As far as outdoor sports and rec activities in the next six to eight weeks, Canniff says the odds are close to nil.
