Local At Indy 500

Next weekend’s Indy 500 will have a local connection.

Stoney Point resident Jim Cooke is a member of the AJ Foyt racing team, working with newcomer Matheaus Leist.

“My role is as a spotter so you stand up on top of the roof and because of the shape of this track, it is so big, most races they only use one spotter because you can follow them around within your line of sight all the way around,” says Cooke, “But because of the size, the trees on the infield, some of the buildings and so on, you have to have two spotters on each car and it is mandatory.”

The Greatest Spectacle in Racing hits the track on Sunday.
