Rick’s Ride for Hope isn’t cancelled, just postponed.
Rick Bernard had planned to ride his bike from Wallaceburg to London this summer in support of the Ronald McDonald house.
But those plans were derailed when Bernard was hit by a truck while riding his bike last week, and seriously hurt.
He was taken to hospital in Wallaceburg before being transferred to Windsor.
“The doctor wasn’t really that hopeful that he was going to be able to do too much as far as fixing it that day,” Bernard says. “He ended up seeing that he could do more, and I guess for lack of a better term he fabricated up some sort of bones and put it back together as best he could.”
Luckily Bernard was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and says it saved his life.
“It’s not something that I used to wear, and NI’m not proud of it. I will always have a helmet on when I’m on a bike. If anybody out there thinks they don’t need it because it’s not going to happen to then, I am fortunately living proof to tell you that it can happen and it’s not fun.”
Rick’s Ride For Hope was scheduled to take place August 19th.
