Three farms in Lambton County and Chatham-Kent are receiving a significant financial boost for helping to address ongoing fertilizer supply chain challenges.
Through the Ontario government’s Fertilizer Challenge, BioLine Corporation and CanGrow Crop Solutions in Alvinston, along with Haggerty AgRobotics in Bothwell, have each been awarded $200,000 in funding.
The province said new and innovative projects at these three farms will help to improve access to fertilizer and reduce dependency on foreign-sourced products.
“Our government will always do what it takes to support Ontario’s farmers, which is why we are laying the groundwork for Ontario-made fertilizer manufacturing,” said Lisa Thompson, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, in a news release. “Projects across the province are underway to provide our farmers with fertilizer resources developed and produced right here in Ontario.”
In 2021, Ontario farmers spent over $1.2 billion on commercial fertilizers and lime, which was applied to over 6.8 million acres of farmland.
