Local Fundraisers Bring in Big Bucks

Organizers are thrilled with the turnout for yesterday’s Walk so Kids Can Talk fundraiser in support of the Kids Help Phone.

Close to 100 people raised $11,000 at Sunday’s BMO Walk So Kids Can Talk in Chatham.

Committee Chair and BMO North Maple Centre branch manager Kyla Tewkesbury, says they raised $11,000 at the Chatham event.

“I believe in the Kids Help Phone, I hope that if my kids need to call, they can call, so I need it to be there just in case,” Tewkesbury says. “People are using it, last year they made 360 calls a day to Kids Help Phone.”

Over 100 people took part in the event at Kingston Park.

Meantime a walk to raise money to support Multiple Sclerosis brought in about $40,000 on Sunday.

Organizers say close to 100 people turned out for the event, which raises money for research as well as supports for local residents living with the disease.
