As the Ontario SPCA’s contract with the municipality comes to a close next month, a new organization has been selected to operate the animal shelter in Chatham.
Pet and Wildfire Rescue has been selected as the animal control provider for Wards 2 and 6, effective November 11th.
PAWR co-founder Myriam Armstrong says that although they may not have years of experience, they’ve done a lot in a short time.
“We’ve worked for three years and we’ve worked with only volunteers and donated dollars, and we’ve taken in more than 900 animals,” Armstrong says. “We have provided oxygen masks for every fire truck in Chatham-Kent. We’ve done so, so much in such a small amount of time, I think Council recognized that.”
Jobs at the Park Avenue East shelter currently held by Ontario SPCA employees will be posted this week.
Armstrong says those animal care and animal control staff are welcome to apply for jobs with PAWR.
