Local police warning residents about recent phone and online scams

Local police want to keep Chatham-Kent residents informed about recent scams.

According to police, scammers are calling residents claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency – demanding payment in the form of gift cards. Other scams involve calls from Winners International Company, e-mails containing links to a refund or e-transfer, or letters asking for banking information to be e-mailed in exchange for a large sum of money.

Chatham-Kent Police say not to click any links or send money to people or companies you don’t know or work with.

They encourage anyone who comes across a potential scam to visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s website.
