Local Restaurants Are Shut Out At Shelter

Some local restaurant owners are concerned that a food service contract for the temporary isolation shelter has gone to an outside company.

Chatham-kent Chief Administrative Officer Don Shropshire says that contract comes with using the Bradley Centre.

The contract is actually for the operation of, encompasses the people that are responsible for running the Bradley operation. They have been here doing that business for 10 years. The current operation of the contract is the emergency isolation shelter Monday to Friday is served by the Bradley Centre, and on Saturday and Sunday the contract services are shared among a number of restaurants that can do delivery service”.

Shropshire says a more permanent homeless shelter is in the works – and will be paid for by the province – and any food service contracts will be offered to local businesses.
