Students across the province will be able to start their Christmas break at the end of the day. The big question of course is will it be longer than two weeks.
Education minister Steven Lecce has warned school boards across the province to prepare for remote learning after January 4th if necessary.
Deb Crawford, the Director of Education for the St. Clair District Catholic School Board says she doesn’t think that will impact this area.
“From our perspective, we believe that our Yellow state of COVID here has made us very safe, and at this point we have no indication that we would, locally, be closing or changing our delivery (of education) come January.”
But as John Howitt, the Director of Education for the Lambton Kent District School Board points out, it’s not their call.
“We do, however, have the ability to help people be prepared for either eventuality,” Howitt says. “And through that preparedness, we’re hoping to provide that stability for people to be able to rest, because they know they have their personal belongings and learning materials home with them, should they be required.”
There’s no indication from the province, at this point, on when a decision to switch to remote learning in the near year might come.
