Chatham-Kent’s mayor is teaming up with a local youth group to bring more art to the community.

In partnership with the CK to the Power of Young (CKY) People Advisory Group, Mayor Darrin Canniff is hoping to create a unique piece of public art.

“We are thrilled to be working on this exciting project,” said Victoria Bodnar, Manager of Community Attraction and Promotion which supports the CKY initiative. “This public art piece will provide an opportunity for young people to get involved in the arts and showcase their perspectives of life in Chatham-Kent through the art’s design.”

CKY Co-Chair Megan Siddall added “We are excited to see what the artist creates from the feedback, and to have the chance to contribute to the development of a unique piece of public art in Chatham-Kent.”

After working with an artist facilitator the CKY group will use the Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent website to issue a call to artists for design concepts. The ideas will be narrowed down and put out to a public vote.

Funds for the project will be donated by Mayor Canniff’s share of Hydro One funding through the Ward Councillor Grant Program.

The design phase for the public art piece is expected to begin later this year.
