Police will be out in force this Thanksgiving weekend, keeping an eye out for dangerous driving habits.
Authorities say they are targeting “the big four” behaviours that put Canadian drivers, passengers, and others at risk.
That includes impaired driving, whether by alcohol or drugs; lack of seat belts; aggressive driving; and distracted driving.
According to the OPP, speed leads the list of causal factors in preventable road fatalities, causing 41 deaths on provincially-patrolled roads. Police say they’ve marked a 30 per cent increase in excessive speeding this year, having laid almost 6,800 racing and stunt driving charges to date.
