A Chatham Councillor is hoping to put regulations in place when it comes to boarding houses.
Ward 6 Councillor Michael Bondy is concerned that boarding and rooming houses are causing disturbances in residential areas:
“Most of these homes are built for single families, so they have one or two working washroom, one working kitchen,” Bondy says. “You then install 15 to 20 individuals that have their own cars and friends and creates some neighbourhood chaos. I’m not against this happening, but it needs to be regulated.
Bondy is asking municipal administration to look into existing zoning by-laws, and whether these types of dwellings can be regulated.
