It will be a few weeks yet before motorists can travel over the Lord Selkirk Bridge in Wallaceburg.
The McNaughton Avenue span was closed on Wednesday, September 2 due to mechanical issues.
Officials with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent now say the bridge will remain closed to vehicular traffic until September 25, although pedestrians can still cross.
As it stands, both the Lord Selkirk Bridge and Dundas Bridge, which connects James Street to Margaret Avenue, are not able to open for larger boats on the Sydenham River.
A statement from the municipality says staff are working to develop and implement the repair to address the mechanical issue and safely reopen the bridge to vehicular traffic.
Detours remain in place.
