It’s going to be a wet few days across southwestern Ontario.
Environment Canada has a yellow severe thunderstorm watch in effect with the possibility of large hail and heavy rain. Officials say that brings the risk of flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility, and drivers are urged to use caution.
Staff at the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority are also warning of ponding, standing water, and localized flooding through the region. In a flood outlook issued last night, officials say smaller waterways could rise and spill their banks into low-lying areas.
Some parts of the watershed could receive as much as 80 mm of rain over the next few days, and predicted rain later in the week could push that even higher.
However, officials say it’s too soon to tell if the rain will have a significant impact on water levels in the Thames River.
