Machete-Wielding Woman Arrested In Chatham

Charges have been laid after a woman was seen carrying a machete while walking in the middle of a Chatham street.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called at around 4:20 a.m. on Thursday, after a woman was seen walking along the road on Queen Street while swinging a machete and yelling obscenities.

The woman complied with an officer’s demands to drop the weapon and she was taken into custody.

Following an investigation, officers also learned that the woman had gone to a man’s home on Richmond Street with the machete and raised the weapon towards the man during an argument.

As a result, a 34-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is now charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a probation order prohibiting her from possessing any weapons. She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
