Paving and road repair is up for discussion again at Monday night’s council meeting.
Members will vote on awarding two tenders, the first for Base Line Road between Dresden and Tupperville, and the other for the rehabilitation of the Dufferin Avenue bridge over Running Creek at the north end of Wallaceburg.
The 7.6 kilometre stretch of Base Line Road from Centre Side Road to North Street, will be repaved using cold in-place pavement recycling. According to the motion going before council this is a process where “existing pavement is reclaimed, rejuvenated, and replaced in one process. Once the new base layer has cured, an asphalt overlay is placed.” The report says this process has significant environmental and cost benefits, “while still providing a solution that is expected to add 15 to 20 years of service life to the pavement.”
Council will vote on awarding that contract to Huron Construction Company, a division of Brennan Paving and Construction Ltd, with their bid of $3,929,467.00.
If approved, work on Base Line Road will start soon with an estimated date of completion of October 31, 2026.
KB Civil Constructors Inc. made a $1,949,148.83 bid to complete the rehabilitation of the Dufferin Avenue Bridge. Council will also vote on a contract amendment of $74,200 for GEI Consultants Canada Ltd for contract administration and inspection services.
Funding was already approved through the 2026 Capital Budget, with the bridge expected to be closed starting this summer with an overall project completion expected sometime in December 2026.
