Man Charged With Endangering Life

Some tense moments for a Chatham resident last night after a man forced his way into a Wellington Street apartment.

According to police, the suspect, who was known to one of the tenants, threatened to burn down the building and left some items sitting on the stove.

Authorities say the accused then put a garbage bin and shopping cart outside the door, blocking the exit.

The resident was able to clear off the stove before a fire started.

Police were able to identify the suspect and tracked down a 41-year-old man a short distance away. He’s now facing charges of break and enter with intent to commit arson, mischief endangering life, and uttering threats.
