A Wallaceburg man is facing weapons related offences following a standoff Friday afternoon.
On Friday, August 13th around 2:30pm Chatham Kent Police received a report that a man had entered an apartment complex on Albert Street with what appeared to be a handgun.
Investigation revealed this wasn’t the first time that citizens noticed the man in the area with a weapon.
Officers responded to the area and set up containment around the apartment for public safety. They identified the man and attempted to negotiate with him to exit the residence.
After several hours, a warrant was issued giving officers the authority to enter the residence.
Shortly after 3am with the assistance of the OPP Tactical Unit they entered the residence and the man was taken into custody.
A 25-year-old Wallaceburg man has been charged with two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and carrying a concealed weapon.
He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
