A local hockey club will be hitting the water instead of the ice this weekend.
The Chatham Maroons will be joining the Breast Buddies dragon boat team for their final practice of the season, paddling from their boat launch on McGregor Line, starting at 9 o’clock Saturday morning.
The players will then help by lifting the dragon boat out of the water and helping to clean it before the boat is stored for the winter.
The Maroons hockey club has been a strong supporter of Breast Cancer Awareness Month since 2013, raising almost $30,000, which has been shared between the Breast Buddies and the Canadian Cancer Society.
This year’s Pink the Rink breast cancer awareness night will take place at Memorial Arena on Sunday, October 26th with a silent auction featuring the Maroons’ game-worn pink jerseys.
