Mayor Canniff to Discuss Funding For C-K With Premier Ford Today

Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff is meeting with Premier Doug Ford on Thursday during his visit to Windsor-Essex.
After getting a hair cut in Leamington, the Premier is touring the Sunbrite Canning facility in Ruthven and will then meet with both Mayor Canniff and Leamington’s Mayor Hilda MacDonald.
Mayor Canniff says local funding and additional help for municipalities across the board will be the major topic of conversation.
“Subject to how long we have to talk, we’ll be discussing various funding issues we’re experiencing and certainly the funding with our deficit, while catching up a little bit as far as making sure he’s familiar with our needs in Chatham-Kent,” says the Mayor.
The municipality of Chatham-Kent has previously estimated a potential $2 million to $5 million loss caused by the pandemic.
After meeting with Mayor Canniff, the Premier is expected to make an announcement connected to the agriculture sector at Craven Farms near Chatham.
Premier Ford will be joined by Minister of Agriculture Ernie Hardeman for his daily 1PM briefing, live from Craven Farms, a sixth generation farming enterprise that has farmed in the area since 1844.
