Lambton Kent Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton doesn’t see a whole lot to like in the provincial economic update released by the government earlier this week.
McNaughton says it could have been an opportunity to signal the government is listening to the concerns of the minimum wage increase, but that wasn’t the case.
“They’re plowing ahead to raise the minimum wage as a way to buy votes in the next election,” McNaughton says. “There’s going to be, I think, all kinds of unintended consequences, whether it’s job losses in our local communities, whether it’s (the cost of) daycare going up.”
McNaughton admits there is a decrease for small business tax, but says that’s small consolation.
